John Hurd, the town’s Solid Waste Coordinator, told the Selectboard that pickup and disposal costs for tires currently exceed the fee charged: the station charges $4 per tire while the actual pickup cost is $5.50. Hurd proposed a new price schedule with tiers at $6, $8, and $20 for large equipment tires (priced by weight) and said a formal rate schedule will be presented at the next meeting. He estimated the transfer station processes about 350 tires annually.
Hurd also announced an upcoming Shred Day on Nov. 22 with discounted shredding at $6 per box and drop-off at the Town Office. The board did not take a final vote on the proposed tire-rate change at the Nov. 3 meeting; rates will be formalized at a future meeting.
