The New Bern Board of Adjustment voted July 23 to adopt revised rules of procedure and elected a vice chair for the coming term.
A member pointed out a clerical phrasing error in Section 6 ("Will" that should be removed). Staff (Jamie) confirmed that clerical correction can be made as an upgrade and advised the board it could adopt the document that night with the stated correction or postpone for further review. The board moved to approve the rules "subject to the clerical change," the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
The board then discussed the need for a vice chair to preside in the chair's absence. Kathleen Martin expressed interest; a motion and second to elect Martin as vice chair carried by voice vote. Staff explained the vice chair term runs on the calendar year cycle unless governed otherwise by the board's rules.
The record shows both the procedural adoption and the officer election occurred at the same meeting; staff will incorporate the clerical correction into the rules document to be retained in board records.
