The Jamaica Select Board reminded residents the town will hold an information session on March 31 at 7 p.m. and a formal vote on April 8 (9 a.m.–7 p.m.) about the possible closure of Jamaica Village School and a related proposal to transfer the property to the town for $1 if voters approve closure.
Robert, identified in the meeting as the committee chair for the school review, said the committee is still gathering information and is preparing a presentation for the information session. "We're still gathering information," he said, noting the committee hopes to present a balanced view of carrying costs and possible community uses if the building is closed. The board encouraged residents to attend the March 31 session at the town office and to review materials the committee will publish.
The board also reminded voters that the school vote and the annual school budget vote occur on the same day and at the same location; officials encouraged turnout so residents can ask questions about finances, the underground storage tank inquiry and future options for the property.
