The Jamaica Select Board voted March 23 to accept a low bid of $239,815 from Hunter Excavating to replace two deteriorated culverts on Goodleville Road with a 6-by-14-foot box culvert.
Greg, who presented the bids, summarized the five proposals and their totals: AS Clark & Sons $245,840; Fitzpatrick Excavating $241,500; Thompson Site Services $275,200; Belden Construction $575,000; and Hunter Excavating $239,815. "I will make a motion that we accept the bid of Hunter Excavating for 239,815 as the lowest bidder," Greg said; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Board members noted that the project will be largely funded through a BTRANS grant and that the town budget will cover the remainder. Greg described the procurement review process and confirmed all bidders were reputable and carried required insurance. The board asked staff to coordinate the construction schedule and shop drawings with the contractor and relevant town staff before work begins.
Next steps: the town will finalize contract paperwork with Hunter Excavating, coordinate the construction calendar with the precaster and contractor, and move forward with permitting and shop drawings as needed.
