A council member moved to approve the Park Grandstand application for the North Chamber demo derby on July 10, 2026, and the motion passed after a second and voice vote. Council also approved street closures for July 11 (East Main Street from State to South Norton; East Washington from State to South Norton; and Kansas Avenue from Penn to East Main). Organizers raised operational questions about picnic tables, food trucks and whether the city would provide barriers; staff said event organizers should email the public‑works team to coordinate logistics and temporary power requests.
Council and event organizers also discussed a guardrail that narrows the demo track; staff agreed to check whether it could be temporarily moved or reconfigured for large events.
