The Superintendent proposed forming a committee to develop consistent practices for funding team travel, lodging and per-student allowances for district clubs and athletic programs. "Because I think at times there's been some misconceptions of how some of that's funded," the Superintendent said, and asked the board for volunteers and community members to help craft recommendations. The Superintendent cited examples in which OSA/OSAA reimbursements fell short and described cases in which the district provided hotel and transportation while booster groups supplemented incidentals.
Board members discussed equity questions — whether support should be distributed per sport or per participant — and logistical variations between sports (single-location multi-day tournaments vs. week-long travel). The Superintendent said staff will survey other districts, involve coaches and community sponsors, and return recommendations for board discussion.
