Henderson approves three-year firefighters' contract after interest-based bargaining

The Henderson City Council unanimously approved a three-year successor labor agreement with International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1883 that city and union negotiators said was reached through interest-based bargaining. Assistant city attorney Christina Gilmore described the process and said the agreement balances investments in firefighters with the city's fiscal responsibilities, reallocating certain holiday-premium hours into long-term, PERS-eligible compensation.
Zach Davis, president of the IAFF local, told council the union surveyed members and that about 93% of members approved the contract. Both sides emphasized collaborative negotiation, and the agreement includes continued paramedic-school support, expanded premium-pay opportunities, a sick-leave bonus program, and other personnel provisions that are fully funded through internal reallocation rather than a budget augmentation. Mayor and council praised the labor-management approach and voted to adopt the agreement.
