Tift County adopts purchasing policy limit for non-budgeted expenditures; board affirms $25,000 cap

The Tift County Board of Commissioners voted Jan. 12 to adopt Resolution No. 2026-02, which updates the county purchasing policy. County Manager Jim Carter said the change aligns county thresholds with state law and clarifies authority for county management on non-budgeted purchases.
"This resolution seeks to amend the policy to increase the threshold for mandatorily bidding public works construction projects to $250,000 to reflect State law and to provide for the County Manager/Assistant County Manager/Chief Financial Officer to have the authority to procure and pay for non-budgeted goods and services which cost less than or equal to an amount approved by the Board of Commissioners," Carter said. Commissioner Paul Webb moved to approve the resolution with a $25,000 limit for non-budgeted expenditures; Commissioner Greg Wood seconded and the motion carried 6–0.
The board’s action sets the internal non-budgeted procurement cap at $25,000 and leaves the statutory public-works bid threshold at $250,000. Staff will update procurement procedures and return any required implementing documents to the board if needed.
