Tift County accepts $130,101 VOCA grant to support victim-witness services

Jodie Spooner, the Victim Witness Assistance Program Director, told the board the award (Grant No AW-VOCA-25-071-012) will reimburse a portion of the program’s personnel costs. "The total award is $130,101," Spooner said, "our office helped 2,400 victims and performed 19,000 services last year." Commissioner Donnie Hester moved to accept the grant; Commissioner Melissa Hughes seconded and the motion carried 6–0.
The grant acceptance does not create a new county program; Spooner said it offsets staffing costs for an existing office that provides services to crime victims. The board did not attach additional conditions or directives to the acceptance; next steps are administrative — execution of award documents by the chairman and implementation through the county’s finance and victim services offices.
