Commissioner Thomas reported the Lawrence Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Organization policy board met last Thursday and considered the region’s long-range planning and Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) items. ‘‘There is an overall plan, 2050, and then we had transportation improvement program plans that we voted on,’’ he said, noting staff work and approval activity.
Thomas singled out planning staff by name: ‘‘Jessica Mortinger and her group are so good and thorough in what they have done,’’ he said, describing the experience as useful for understanding programs and spending for Lawrence, Eudora, Baldwin, Lecompton and the unincorporated area. The update was offered as part of routine committee reports and no formal action on these items was taken by the commission at this meeting.
