Kimberly walked the board through accessibility provisions added to the model code, including a new table that requires automatic doors at some public entrances depending on occupancy and occupant load. "Automatic doors are now required in these certain occupancies," she said, adding the code never previously required them.
On EV charging, Kimberly said the code requires 5% of EV charging spaces (but not fewer than one per type) to be sized and designed as accessible van spaces; these are separate from the parking spaces already required by ADA-based provisions. Board members discussed how signage and enforcement would work at sites where EV spaces are not marked as accessible spaces by owners.
