Commissioners and attendees raised concerns about project staging and traffic control after recent corridor work on East 12th and Connecticut Streets. Evan Corent said the city seeks to coordinate with street maintenance and engineering teams during internal plan review so underground infrastructure and utility conflicts can be addressed alongside ADA work. "As street maintenance is going through, annually ... we actually provide some funding to update the curb ramps along those routes," he said.
On traffic control and phasing, staff said contract traffic plans generally limit closures to one side of a block at a time and aim to preserve at least one accessible pedestrian route; contractors sometimes exceed the plan, which can create detours and staging challenges, particularly in tightly packed blocks. Corent acknowledged challenges with staging material and equipment in older neighborhoods and said the city tries to sequence work to reduce repeated digs on the same corridor.
