Lauren Elliott, the town assessor, presented the July 2026 assessor's report and walked the BET through taxable activity since the last update. She said tax bills were mailed June 17 and are due August 3 this year because Aug. 1 falls on a Saturday, and that new certificates of occupancy since Oct. 1 will add roughly $223,716 to this year's grand list. "In June there were 65 sales, up from 54 in May," Elliott said.
Elliott reported 189 applicants this year qualified for the town's program that yielded an average benefit of about $3,400, up one applicant from last month. On appeals, Elliott said the revaluation process has generated 98 appeals to date: 68 commercial and 30 residential. "Considering the amount of increase this year in the residential and overall grand list, I was happy to see it under 100," she said, and compared that count to larger appeals totals in prior reval years (166 in 2015, 134 in 2010). Board members asked for context on appeals and suggested Elliott include trend comparisons in future reports so the public and new BET members better understand how this reval compares to past cycles.
The BET accepted the assessor's report by voice vote.
