Council adopts driveway-width amendments for missing-middle housing zones

Planning Director Heather Trautman presented final ordinance language amending driveway-width standards in the neighborhood-family and multifamily residential zones as part of the city's "missing middle" housing adjustments. "The language, as proposed is 16 feet wide for the driveway approach that's consistent with our current public work standards," Trautman said, explaining the approach-to-depth relationship and its origin in fire-code considerations.
Under the adopted language the approach may be 16 feet wide and the driveway may narrow to a minimum of 12 feet for up to 150 feet of depth, provided the driveway serves no more than four dwelling units; the 150-foot figure reflects fire-code considerations for apparatus turning and access. The council approved the ordinance on final reading unanimously, 6-0.
