Board discusses FEMA bridge work, municipal roads grants and potential reallocation of funds

Select Board members said a recent site inspection found no engineer proposal for the FEMA project, but VTrans and a river-corridor engineer indicated the temporary work in place could be considered permanent and stable, potentially freeing FEMA funds for mitigation at other locations.
The board voted to sign the letter of intent to participate in the municipal roads grant program so Jamaica remains eligible; projects selected under the program must be identified by the end of September for next summer's work. Board members asked staff to review options for allocating any freed-up FEMA funds and to monitor the bridge site during high-water events.
On a separate roads item, board members noted an awarded culvert replacement project on Goodwill Road (Route 30 N) is in progress with work expected to be completed by the end of the summer; the board confirmed the contractor will proceed and staff will coordinate scheduling and monitoring.
