Londonderry to seek $1.05M in federal disaster-recovery funds to expand South Londonderry wastewater system

The Londonderry Selectboard voted unanimously Sept. 25 to authorize an application for $1,050,000 in Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds to expand the South Londonderry wastewater treatment system. The action follows a public hearing in which the project was presented and discussed.
Karen Geraghty of KG Consulting, the presenter, said the state received a large CDBG-DR allocation after the July 2023 floods and described the town’s planned expansion. "The Town has been awarded a $4,143,300 ARPA grant from the State of Vermont for the design and construction of a community wastewater system for the village of South Londonderry," Geraghty said, noting the ARPA funding covered design and initial construction but not the full cost of the proposed expansion. The initial phase will treat up to 6,480 gallons per day; the expansion would add another 6,480 gpd for a total capacity of 12,960 gpd.
Selectboard member Jim Fleming asked where the CDBG-DR funds were held and whether an award was guaranteed. Geraghty replied, "They are currently being held by HUD and we haven’t submitted the grant application or been awarded anything yet, so nothing is guaranteed." Following the presentation the board adopted a resolution authorizing the town to apply for the CDBG-DR grant and designated Town Administrator Aileen Tulloch as the Municipal Authorizing Official to execute grant documents.
