Londonderry Selectboard declines grandfathering request for short-term rental registrant

Cameron and Doria Habib asked the Selectboard on Oct. 6 to be grandfathered into the town's prior short-term rental (STR) ordinance after attempts to register beginning in November 2024. The Habibs told the board they had exchanged emails with the STR administrator and expected the date of first written contact to preserve their priority, but the board said no application had been filed by the program deadline.
The Town Attorney advised the board that, without a submitted application by the deadline, the Habibs are not enrolled in the STR program and therefore cannot be grandfathered in. The Selectboard concurred and suggested the Habibs participate in future discussions about program changes; members also introduced the possibility of adding a formal appeals process. The exchange occurred during the public comment portion of the Oct. 6 meeting.
