Selectboard approves up to $150,000 Cemetery Commission loan to rebuild Pingree Park tennis court

Mountain Towns Recreation Director Liam Elio told the Selectboard that the Pingree Park tennis court is in significant disrepair, with a flawed foundation, broken fencing and conditions that now pose a safety hazard. Assessments from Advantage Tennis recommended demolition and a full rebuild at an estimated cost of about $150,000; fencing alone was estimated at around $30,000. Elio said a new surface could support tennis and up to four pickleball courts and expected a lifespan of 10–30 years, with 20 years a reasonable estimate.
The Recreation Board proposed borrowing from the Cemetery Commission and spreading repayment over five years while pursuing grants, loans, and donations. James Ameden moved to approve pursuing a Cemetery Commission loan of up to $150,000 and authorized the Town Administrator to execute necessary documents; the motion passed unanimously. The board directed staff to put the project out to bid and to explore funding options in the coming budget cycle, with site preparation targeted for fall 2026 and installation in spring 2027 if funding is secured.
