City staff announce Highway 71 planning study open house for Sept. 30, 2025

City Administrator Angel Weasner told the Park Rapids City Council that MnDOT and consultant Kimley‑Horn have been awarded a planning study for the Highway 71 project and that project construction is not anticipated until approximately 2031 or 2032. Weasner said the city will host an open house at City Hall tentatively on Sept. 30, 2025 to gather stakeholders and community input, and he asked that the mayor and one council member serve on the stakeholder group.
Weasner said the city is assembling a stakeholder list that will include the school and the hospital and that more details about the open house will follow. The announcement frames early outreach rather than any immediate project commitments; the planning study will guide longer-term design and right-of-way considerations.
