Park Rapids to merge Parks & Beautification Board with Urban Forestry Committee

The Park Rapids City Council unanimously approved the first reading of Ordinance 637 on Sept. 9 to combine the Parks & Beautification Board and the Urban Forestry Committee sections of city code. City Attorney Pat Bakken explained that merging the code sections required extra care because of stipulations tied to Tree City designation.
Administrator Angel Weasner said the consolidation made sense locally because a current Parks & Beautification Board member is especially interested in trees and would continue serving under the combined structure. The motion to approve Ordinance 637 was made by Councilmember Tim Little, seconded by Joe Christensen, and carried unanimously on first reading.
