Eric Long briefed the Board on a proposed action plan to increase storm‑surge resilience across Pelican Sound, recommending creation of an advisory/review panel and coordination with state, county and village partners. He described modeling showing a hypothetical 10–12 foot surge could flood an estimated 45%–55% of the community under certain conditions and urged a long‑term effort that could take up to 10 years and require multiple agencies and funding sources.
Mr. Long asked the CDD to designate a Board representative and staff/engineering liaisons to coordinate; the Board reached consensus that Mr. Long and newly appointed Mr. Merrill will assist and authorized Mr. Krebs to provide support as necessary. Counsel noted the Army Corps of Engineers has presented ideas for neighboring counties if funding becomes available, and Board members discussed the need to coordinate with West Bay and other local stakeholders.
