Johnson Engineering files Lee County NPDES annual report; new permit timing unclear

Johnson Engineering presented the Lee County NPDES Permit FLS000035-004 Cycle 4 Year 7 Annual Report, which Lee County reviewed and will forward to FDEP ahead of the Nov. 1, 2024 deadline; staff noted a new permit is anticipated in the fall but no release date is known and sampling requirements could change.
Mark Zordan of Johnson Engineering presented the Lee County NPDES Permit FLS000035-004 Cycle 4 Year 7 Annual Report and confirmed that Lee County reviewed and approved the Report. It will be submitted to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in advance of the Nov. 1, 2024 deadline.
Mr. Zordan said the new permit for which the District will need to apply is anticipated to be released in the fall but there has been no formal notice of timing; until it is issued the District will proceed into Year 8 of the current cycle. He noted Johnson Engineering attends bi‑monthly Lee County NPDES meetings and provides minutes to the District Manager. Board members discussed possible changes to water sampling requirements in future permit cycles and noted that stormwater ponds are expected to catch and retain runoff and are not held to the same standard as natural lakes.
