The UN's humanitarian office warned that cholera is spreading in Sudan, with more than 2,000 suspected cases and 170 reported deaths since May, primarily in the Kordofan region, spokesperson Farhan told reporters.
Farhan said partners are scaling up surveillance, treatment and prevention activities, supporting nearly 80 surveillance sites, 16 treatment centers and eight oral rehydration points for more than 270,000 people, but funding shortfalls limit the response. He added that this year's humanitarian appeal for Sudan is about 40% funded, with $1,100,000,000 received against nearly $2,900,000,000 required.
