The Oakland Architectural Review Board approved a revised commercial fencing plan for 320 South Tubbs Street that adds decorative columns to a previously approved 6‑foot privacy fence. Planner Taylor Hague presented the case and recommended approval, saying staff found the materials and proposed setbacks consistent with the Urban Corridor Design District and the town's land development code.
"Staff does find the proposed fencing and columns substantially compliant with the town of Oakland's land development code, design district requirements, and does recommend approval," Taylor Hague said while summarizing the design, noting the property is about 1.25 acres and the columns will frame the northern entryway.
Hague told the board the decorative columns are approximately 6 feet 4 inches tall, about 2 feet by 2 feet in area, and that decorative columns may extend up to 8 feet by code; the fence itself remains a 6‑foot privacy fence and will require required setback plantings (including a 3‑foot hedge where visible from rights of way). Contractor Kenny Welch, representing Performance Fence and Rail, introduced himself and said the owner emphasizes appearance and quality: "I own Performance Fence and Rail, and I will be the fence contractor for 320 South Tubbs." Board members expressed support for adding the column caps and approved the revised plan by motion and vote.
The approval covers only the fence and columns as presented; additional site improvements will follow through separate permitting and review processes.
