Chairman Johnson opened a hearing on a requested modification of zoning conditions for 3098 Trickham Road (case 774), a property originally rezoned in 2000 with a condition that prohibited massage therapy among other uses. Mr. Traylor explained the applicant’s request: to remove massage therapy from the list of prohibited uses so licensed massage services may be offered as part of the chiropractic practice to complement clinical care.
Commissioner Weatherby moved to strike 'massage therapy' from the prohibition and add a clarifying condition that massage therapy would be permitted only when provided as part of a chiropractic practice for chiropractic patients. Commissioner Carter seconded; the motion passed unanimously. Commissioner Weatherby said he had ‘‘been down that road’’ and supported allowing massage therapy limited to referrals and services tied to chiropractic care. The board’s action leaves the overall ONI (office/institutional) nature of the property intact while allowing the clinic to expand services within the clinic context.
