The Broken Arrow Planning Commission approved a minor amendment to PUD 94b that modifies prior signage restrictions so the property can be rebranded to Maverik with a 50-foot sign oriented to the Broken Arrow Expressway.
Planner (Speaker 6) explained the amendment would change the PUD language to match the current zoning code, removing the PUD limit of 25 feet and allowing the 50-foot sign that would otherwise be permitted if no PUD were in place. The planner said, "They're not asking for anything in addition to what is currently allowed by code if there were no PUD on this property." He also noted the prior amendment was approved by city council on 11/11/2020 and had capped signage at 25 feet.
Commissioners asked whether the taller sign and any digital display or lighting would affect nearby apartments. The planner replied that lighting must meet zoning standards including dimming requirements and that approximately 0.5 of the sign face could be a digital display for prices. No members of the public signed up to speak. A motion to approve item 6(a) per staff recommendations passed on a roll-call vote; the chair noted this was a minor amendment and would not go to city council.
