Tunbridge treasurer reports $400,000 highway surplus; board OKs Trails Fund and amends BRIC contractor contract

Treasurer Becky Hoyt told the Tunbridge Selectboard on May 27 there is a substantial surplus in the highway fund — roughly $400,000 pending any major expenses — and noted the general fund may have a small surplus as well.
Hoyt asked for Selectboard approval to create a Trails Committee Fund to accept and hold donations; Vice Chair Mike McPhetres moved to permit the treasurer to set up the fund, John O’Brien seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Separately, Maryann Caron said VHB, the BRIC grant contractor, exceeded its budgeted hours and requested a $3,115 amendment to the contract to cover the overrun. The Selectboard voted unanimously to amend the VHB contract.
Jonathan Bicknell updated the board on trail conditions: Orchard Trail is closed due to wet conditions but Sean Ogle from the Upper Valley Trails Alliance is penciled in for June 18 and Bicknell requested $1,500 for that work; Falls Hill is ready for walking and biking; Crossroad Trail would need approximately $3,300 if funds are available. Bicknell also said a DMV bill containing legal-trail language was unanimously approved and will go to the governor.
