Short‑term rental update: 45 of 88 permits renewed; 50 properties to receive noncompliance notices

Planning & Zoning Administrator Mitch Poulsen, joined by Samantha Coontz of the Bear Lake Regional Commission and Bob Peterson of Azora Software, provided a short‑term rental permit system update at the Jan. 7 meeting. Of the original 88 permits, 45 have renewed so far; staff said the current renewal window extends to March 31, 2026.
Presenters recommended changing future renewal windows to Sept. 1–Dec. 31 to align with permit expiration dates. Officials reported that roughly 50 properties have never submitted applications; those properties will receive their first noncompliance letters by the end of January and will have 30 days to begin registration. Mitch Poulsen will prepare ordinance amendments for Planning Commission review and return with suggested language.
