Commission approves Caterpillar D6 and Bobcat purchases using Tourism Tax funds

Rich County commissioners on Dec. 10 approved two capital equipment purchases funded in part with Tourism Tax allocations. Commissioner William E. Cox moved to purchase a used Caterpillar D6 for the sanitation department at a cost between $225,000 and $228,000; Commissioner Jonathan B. Lee seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The commission also approved purchasing a Bobcat 576 skid steer with attachments from Valley Equipment for $61,840 for use at the landfill.
Earlier in the afternoon, commissioners discussed Tourism Tax Advisory Board recommendations, including the decision not to fund the Bear Lake State Park launch-ramp replacement at this time, increasing funding for Randolph park improvements to $100,000, and providing additional funding to Meadowville. The board said sanitation funding for a new front-load garbage truck was part of the proposed allocations under consideration.
Commissioners recorded that the Caterpillar purchase would use Tourism Tax funds allocated to sanitation; the motions carried by unanimous vote. The purchases are recorded as approved capital expenditures and will proceed through procurement and payment steps assigned to county departments.
