Lake County LAPAC outlines timeline for public review after second community survey

Lake County Local Area Plan Advisory Committee members reviewed the results of a second community survey and agreed on a workflow to feed recommendations into the Lake County 2050 area-plan updates. Mireya Turner, the staff facilitator, told members the survey had about 92 responses and skewed older and white, underlining the need for broader outreach: "we had 92, somewhere around 92 responses... People who take surveys are over 50 years old and white," she said.

Turner said the internal drafting process will continue through the spring and that the draft area plans will be released for public review in May. She asked LAPAC members to submit notes on an upcoming shared document so staff can synthesize five deliverables — survey feedback, planning-area boundary adjustments, community growth boundaries, land‑use designation suggestions, and review of existing objectives/policies/implementations — and send recommendations to the core team. "I'm going to send it out... and then give you the rest of the week," Turner said, describing a short review cycle and a follow-up check‑in at week’s end.

The committee affirmed targeted outreach already underway: meetings with local tribes and a Spanish-language stakeholder meeting were cited as positive steps, and members suggested additional outreach to schools and civic programs to engage younger residents. Turner said LAPAC-specific review will be solicited during the public-review period so members can confirm the draft captures locally prioritized policies before the plan advances.
