Ron Redmond outlined plans for an Ad Hoc Building Committee to evaluate the city’s fire service facility needs, review the existing fire station, and explore options that include renovating the present building, constructing a new facility, or establishing a satellite station. He said the committee would establish a mission statement, evaluate financial implications, explore regional cooperation, and provide a final report with recommendations to the council.
Suggested members included the Vergennes Fire Chief (or deputy/senior firefighter), the City Manager, a city council member, representatives from Panton and Ferrisburgh, a public member with civic engineering or building experience, a professional from construction/architecture/engineering for technical guidance, a representative from Addison County Regional Planning, and a finance or capital planning member. Council members supported formation of the committee and asked Redmond to report back on next steps and timing.
