Clerk flags past FirstNet costs; commissioners add $400 cushion for phones
Summary
Veronica said one-time costs related to the county's FirstNet transition strained the phone budget last year; commissioners moved $400 into the phones line to cover potential new-commissioner needs, leaving a recurring phones budget near $1,700.

Veronica reviewed the phones line and said last year’s one-time FirstNet-related expenses (paying off phones and switching service) were large and reduced available recurring funds. She reported the recurring phones budget from last year was $2,000, the current baseline sits around $1,700, and she moved $400 from employee recognition into phones to cover new-commissioner needs.
"We had some large expenses when we switched over to FirstNet," Veronica said, noting those were one-time charges that affected last year’s budget. Commissioners discussed whether the county would need to purchase phones for new commissioners, cover lost or damaged devices, or otherwise absorb equipment costs, and agreed the $400 cushion was prudent.
The board left detailed phone replacement policies to standard county procedures and auditing rules.
