The Vergennes City Council voted Aug. 12 to schedule a public informational meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 26, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. to discuss the Vergennes–Panton boundary and to reconvene the council at 6:30 p.m. Deputy Mayor Dickie Austin moved the amendment to substitute the word “meeting” for “hearing,” and Alderman John Montgomery seconded; the amendment passed unanimously.
Council staff noted that several residents had asked to speak on the boundary: Travis Scribner, Bettyjo Bouchey, Ivan St. George and David Austin were listed as commenters. The change from “hearing” to “meeting” was entered into the record by Deputy Mayor Austin before the council finalized the schedule. No decision on boundary changes was made at the Aug. 12 session; the Aug. 26 meeting will be the next opportunity for public comment and any formal council action.
