Council approves Draft Future Land Use map and authorizes Act 181 opt-in

Shannon Haggett, chair of the Vergennes Planning Commission, presented future land-use opportunities and introduced the Draft Future Land Use (FLU) Area Map for the city. Following the presentation, the council voted to approve the Draft FLU Area Map as presented; Deputy Mayor Austin moved, Alderman Harder-Hyde seconded, and the motion passed 6-0.
The council also authorized staff to opt Vergennes into the state Act 181 process and to apply for Tier 1B—and potentially Tier 1A—designation for growth areas under Act 181. That authorization was moved by Deputy Mayor Austin, seconded by Alderman Montgomery, and approved 6-0. The minutes do not record additional conditions or deadlines for the Tier application.
