Commission recommends removing inaccurate Current Use map and questions 'future high-density development' labeling

The Planning Commission reviewed the Plan's maps and recommended removing Current Use Map 2 because it contains "too many inaccuracies." Mr. Kenniston raised concerns about a section on the Future Land Use Map labeled "future high-density development," prompting discussion among staff and commissioners about the appropriateness and placement of that designation.

Commissioners also questioned why only a few roads were named on the Transportation Map and asked staff to contact the Mt. Ascutney Regional Commission for corrections. Mr. Gumbart said he would change red boxes that denote culverts to dots for easier reading and explained how the red-lined village areas were drawn to generally capture locations within a one-mile walking distance of village centers. The Commission agreed the Historic Resources Map should remain in the Plan while the Natural Resources Map could be removed, since it is not required by statute.

Staff will revise the mapping layers and compile the corrected maps in the final draft for the public hearing.
