The Mendota Heights City Council voted unanimously July 7 to award a professional services contract to Braun Intertec for geotechnical services for the Municipal Campus Building Project, with a contract cap of $22,200. Councilor Mazzitello moved to award the contract and Councilor Paper seconded; the motion passed Ayes: 5, Nays: 0.
Public Works Director Ryan Ruzek told the council the selected proposal provided more detail and a clearer approach for the planned borings; the typical scope calls for borings to 30 feet and the contractor will notify the City if authorization to go deeper is needed. Ruzek also confirmed that the geotechnical scope does not include groundwater environmental testing, which would require a separate contract if the City directs that work.
Councilors and members of the public used the award as an occasion to emphasize the need for solid site data before finalizing design or layout. “If suitable material is not reached at 30 feet, the contractor would contact the City to receive authorization to go deeper,” Ruzek said during the discussion. The geotechnical report will inform next phases of design as the Council continues to seek cost reductions and address siting implications for the adjacent ballfield.
