Selectboard accepts Communities Caring for Canopy grant for village trees

Selectboard members voted to authorize the tree board to apply for and accept a Communities Caring for Canopy grant that would fund planting up to 10 trees in village locations (three on Main Street, two on School Street, one on Pearl Street, plus replacements in the cemetery), remove specified honeysuckle bushes, mulch public trees and hire an arborist for assessment and cabling/pruning needs.
A board member moved to allow the tree board to apply and to accept the grant. The motion was seconded and the board voted in favor by voice vote. Members discussed ensuring the tree board follows any village protocols for plantings and noted the grant would cover plantings and educational signage.
The town will coordinate with the tree board on site selection and any village approvals necessary to plant on village property.
