Ruben Greer, a fifth-grade student at Vestavia Hills West, told the school board on July 27 that he won a season-long go-kart championship by accumulating the highest point total and earned a trip to the world finals in Spain this October. "I got the most points... and I won it," Greer said as the board recognized his achievement.
Board members and school leaders praised Greer, noting his prior national titles and his standing as a student. A principal who spoke to the board described him as "a great student and a great friend" who reflects the district's values. The board said the district is proud to have students representing Vestavia Hills City Schools at national and international competitions and congratulated Greer on his accomplishment.
