KCKPS board honors student state champions and administrators of the month

The Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education recognized student achievements across speech, music and debate competitions and named administrators of the month, then recessed briefly for group photos.
The Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education opened its May 12 meeting by celebrating student and staff accomplishments across the district.
Superintendent Stubblefield and President Randy Lopez highlighted National and State level awards earned by Sumner Academy and several high school and middle school students in debate, speech, choir and orchestra. Sumner’s debate pair reached nationals at Harvard University and the district reported numerous 1 ratings at state contests. "We are grateful for the students, staff, and families whose experiences and perspectives enrich our district every day," Stubblefield said.
The board also presented administrators of the month, recognizing Zach Duncan, Chantelle Edwards, Ashley Campbell, and Dr. Brian Gulliford for nominations citing leadership and classroom support. President Lopez said the board would take a brief recess for photos with the honorees and student champions before resuming regular business. The recognitions segment concluded with the board moving on to the scheduled community-comment period.
