Avon authorizes two-year AMR ambulance contract extension through 2028

The Avon Town Council authorized the Town Manager to execute a two-year extension with American Medical Response of Connecticut, Inc. for advanced life support and ambulance services from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2028.
Chief of Police Neil Dryfe recommended the extension based on responsiveness and operational familiarity. He noted that "this contract does not cost the Town any money as AMR bills our very highly insured resident population; that is how the model works in many other communities as well." Dryfe also described AMR’s typical staffing (one primary ambulance with occasional mutual aid and a floater unit in the Fisher Meadows area) and noted occasional exemptions when the town’s unit is tied up and mutual-aid response times vary.
Council approved the extension unanimously. The Town Manager and police staff will continue to monitor response times and discuss mutual-aid arrangements with neighboring services.
