Town representative urges correction of Bakersfield village map, pushes for sidewalks

She said the select board previously tapped her to handle village designation paperwork and that she brought an email from Richard Amor at the Vermont Department of Housing and Community Development recommending coordination with regional planning staff.
Linda asked the commission to form a subcommittee to visit parcels in person rather than relying on desktop mapping. She raised safety concerns around the south end of Main Street where some residents must walk to the post office and where sidewalks were not installed during recent repaving. "Deepgram has grant money available for sidewalks, and it should be a priority for Bakersfield," she said, and added, "If you saw the near misses, you would not... We don't wanna wait until some kid gets killed." Commissioners agreed to circulate copies of the materials Linda provided and to include mapping work in forthcoming plan work after receiving a recently awarded grant.
