Council approves multiple street closures for summer events in Junction City
Summary
Council approved several street-closure requests April 14: the 65th Scandinavian Festival (Aug. 13–16), a Scandinavian Cultural Foundation day camp (June 21–28), a July 4 neighborhood party (July 4–5), and a May 30 cruise event — all conditioned and reviewed by police and fire.
The Junction City Council approved a series of street-closure requests for community events across the summer season during its April 14 meeting. Director Kevin presented each request and noted that police, fire and public works had reviewed the plans and raised no major objections for the festival and day-camp closures.
For the Scandinavian Festival, staff said the 65th annual event is requested for Aug. 13–16 under the same conditions used in prior years. The council approved the conditioned closure with nonexclusive use of city streets. Council also approved a June 21–28 day-camp closure on Greenwood Street between 4th and 5th (8 a.m.–8 p.m. daily) as conditioned in the staff packet. A July 4–5 neighborhood closure request for 9th Street and a May 30 closure for the cruise/burnout event were also approved; staff added a condition prohibiting burnouts on 2nd Street for safety reasons. Each motion carried on recorded council votes.
