The finance committee voted to authorize staff to file the FY25 E-rate Category 1 application, which covers connectivity and eligible services and is administered under USAC and the Federal Communications Commission.
"The e rate program is a federal program that ensures connectivity for areas that don't necessarily have it otherwise," the E-rate presenter said, explaining Category 1 typically reimburses about 80% of eligible costs. Staff said the district commonly receives roughly $500,000 back to the general fund annually for wide-area network and internet services and that the filing must be approved by the board to accompany the reimbursement request.
A committee member moved the recommendation and another seconded; the motion carried by voice vote and will be presented to the full board on Tuesday for final approval.
