Finance staff told the committee they are watching delays in two federal funding streams that could affect local programs and positions.
The presenter said the district has not yet received a notice of award for a magnet schools assistance program (MSAP) grant the district expected this cycle and that the delay may force pausing summer programming and some grant-funded positions. “As of today, we have not received that grant authorization,” the presenter said.
Staff also said ESSA allocations (including Title I, II and IV) have not been released; staff estimated Title I preliminary planning at about $5,000,000 and said Title II and Title IV are substantially smaller. The presenter said the district is coordinating with federal and congressional staff and will hold nonessential spending and vacant positions while allocations remain uncertain.
Committee members thanked staff for monitoring the situation and asked for updated figures if allocations change.
