Public works staff updated the board on gravel-pit expansion phases and material quality. The road foreman described hitting bedrock and other unexpected material in phase 2 and explained that material variability could affect the schedule and the amount of usable roadstone recovered.
Board members debated whether to pursue a blasting/crushing permit now or to wait until a larger exposed area would make blasting and crushing efficient. The foreman noted that blasting and crushing can produce desired sized rock and that screening capability is limited in-house. "If we had an area that went back this way of any width, it would be worth it," the road foreman said of blasting and screening, and the board agreed to consult surveyors and engineers (Tyler, Barnard, Jarvis) before deciding whether to update permits or request additional equipment.
