Animal services: secure fences, microchips and town licensing speed reunions

Alana Caswell said secure fences, microchips and properly licensed collars help animal services return lost pets to owners more quickly. She described licensing as a practical step that allows staff to contact owners immediately when a stray dog is picked up.
"Making sure that your dog is microchipped and has a collar on and has the town licensing on the collar ... we can contact you immediately once we do get a hold of your dog, and it just it speeds up the process of people getting their dogs' homes," Caswell said. She also stressed that dogs should be kept in secure enclosures when owners are away to prevent escapes and prolonged stray incidents.
