NRPC planner (staff) told the commission the selectboard had signed the contract, allowing the town plan update to begin. He outlined a tentative schedule of outreach events through the summer and fall, followed by drafting meetings and a plan adoption process timed to replace the current plan before it expires in November of next year. "We have the municipal planning grant and the budget to do a full‑scale update with outreach and everything," the planner said.
Commissioners and staff discussed priorities for the update: housing, historic preservation, scenic resources, recreation, and energy. Commissioners asked that the plan include language protecting important view sheds along Route 36 and Route 108 and suggested identifying locations where renewable energy projects would be acceptable. The planner said the NRPC can prepare maps for an enhanced energy plan and recommended targeted outreach sessions—separate, focused meetings on energy and communications—to invite utility representatives and stakeholders. Heather Jewett volunteered to coordinate community outreach and social media to boost participation.
