Mill Creek board approves outside armed security for events; SRO cooperative agreement tabled
Summary
The Mill Creek Board approved an offer from Chickasaw Nation Artesian Resort security to staff sporting events and authorized the security lead to carry a firearm on campus for those events. The board also voted to table the School Resource Officer cooperative agreement until the next meeting.
The Mill Creek Board of Education approved an offer from Russell Allen, head of security with Chickasaw Nation Artesian Resort, to provide security at school sporting events and authorized him to carry his firearm on campus for those events. The motion to approve the offer was made by Aaron Vestal and seconded by Craig Hughes; the minutes record votes in favor by Aaron Vestal, Craig Hughes and President Kathy Castleberry.
Separately, the board reviewed the School Resource Officer (SRO) Cooperative Agreement for 2024–2025 and voted to table the agreement until the next regular meeting. The motion to table was made by Aaron Vestal and seconded by Craig Hughes; those voting in favor were Craig Hughes, Aaron Vestal and Kathy Castleberry. Also at the meeting Officer Teddy Lenard presented several campus security measures for the 2024–25 school year; no formal vote was taken on Lenard’s recommendations at this session.
