Students report wins, grants and CTE projects at Klamath Falls board meeting

At Klamath Union High School, student reps Leona Higgins and Talan Chancellor reported that several students qualified for All‑State Band, Orchestra and Choir (including Seattle Trejo, Thomas Biggs and Daisy Kupitz). KUHS also received a $30,000 grant through a partnership with the Downtown Association and is expanding access to work-based learning. Upcoming testing and events include DECA competition Nov. 14 and ASVAB testing scheduled for Nov. 18 (pending federal operations).
Eagle Ridge students Noah Clayton and Aiden Jimenez described a revived FBLA chapter, construction CTE work (designing a large outdoor pavilion and playground shed for Pelican Elementary), advanced welding fixtures coming online, and a reported GED pass rate of 92% for Klamath Learning Center students. They also said marketing students are partnering with Sky Lakes to support the local Farmers Market.
Ponderosa Middle School students Olivia Fenner and Ashlynn Lemieux highlighted performing arts concerts, selection of a student for OMEA All‑State Middle School Choir, a new in‑school suspension model focused on restorative practices, and upcoming after‑school literacy programming.
Board members praised the student presenters and acknowledged the value of hearing student perspectives directly.
