Renee Clark, Director of Human Resources, presented a first reading of revisions to Policy GBCA, which covers staff dress, grooming, and religious attire. The proposal adds a grooming section, clarifies expectations for professional appearance, and is intended to align KFCS with common statewide practice.
Board members discussed how the policy would be enforced, who decides what is "appropriate," and how to ensure consistency across schools. Administrators said the staff handbook would implement the policy with discretion for different roles and contexts (for example, art teachers or elementary staff), and emphasized addressing only clear outlier cases. The board discussed safety-related examples (open-toed shoes), excessive piercings at school events, and the goal of modeling professionalism for students.
Although a motion and second were recorded during the meeting, the board opted to delay the final vote until the December meeting so that all members could review tracked changes and sample language from other districts. The policy remains a first reading and will return to the agenda for a second reading in December.
